Vacant home damaged in Oak Park fire
News

SACRAMENTO - Sacramento firefighters responded to a house fire on the 3300 block of 42nd Street just before 5:00 a.m. on Thursday.

According to firefighters on scene, arriving crews found the vacant Oak Park home fully involved, but were able to extinguish the burn by 5:40 a.m.

Firefighters on scene said the fire began in an addition at the rear of the home, but had yet to determine a cause of the burn. However, they did not rule out the possibility that squatters or an arsonist could have started the blaze.

The home, which had been vacant for years, was constantly subject to vandalism, break-ins and squatting, according to firefighters.

The interior of the house sustained substantial damage, but firefighters said it was unknown at the time whether the home would need to be torn down.

The Sacramento Fire Dept. will continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
