SACRAMENTO, CA - An alert cat helped a Sacramento woman discover a burglar inside her Pocket-area home Sunday night.

According to Officer Michelle Gigante with the Sacramento Police Department, the 19-year-old woman was watching television alone in the house around 11:31 p.m. when her cat suddenly sprung up and darted into her mother's bedroom.

Curious over her pet's peculiar behavior, the woman followed her cat into the bedroom to find a strange man standing in the room, said Gigante.

The man then ran and jumped out of a window to escape, then fled the area.

The woman investigated the room and discovered the suspected burglar had taken money from her mother's wallet. She then called her mother, who returned home, and the two called police, Gigante said.

Police searched the area but could not find the alleged burglar.

The man was described as a white man in his 50s. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans.
